Fashion Merchandising/Business Professor Ashli Ree began teaching at MCC in 2013, and started using OER in her courses soon after in 2014. Students in her Intro to Business, Retail Management, and Principles of Management classes benefit from having these resources. In her words, “1) It's free (the ones I've used) and 2) students will have textbooks on the first day of classes…Students appreciate that they don't have to purchase a textbook.”
She also tells us, “Compared to when I first started using OER in 2014, there are more resources available now which makes it easier, for both the faculty and students. It's also great that students aren't paying for chapters faculty cannot cover, as we generally tend to not cover every chapter from the textbook…Some students prefer a hard copy and some OER are available as a hard copy. There is cost associated with that, but it's still lower than most textbooks.”
