Kanopy: Public Performance Rights

Kanopy Public Performance Rights

What are Public Performance Rights?

Public Performance Rights (PPR) are the legal rights to publicly show a film or video (media). Normally, the media producer or distributor manages these rights. The rights-holder can assign PPR to others through a Public Performance License.

Do Kanopy films come with Public Performance Rights?

Yes, as long as no admission is charged, films provided through Kanopy can be shown to your students in the classroom or made available to students online.  In addition, the Kanopy films PPR allow us to show films during:

  • Extracurricular sponsored events such as general lectures
  • Student club events
  • As part of a film series
