HUS 101: Introduction to Human Services (Barrio): Databases

Databases

I'm using person centered therapy (my topic) as a keyword or a search term. This is going to help me when I'm doing research in a specific database such as Academic Search Premier.

When you're searching on a database, use the filters! They are going to help narrow down your search. Remember to click on FULL TEXT and make sure the publication dates are relative to your project. The PEER REVIEWED filter will help you narrow down your results to scholarly articles.

When you're using the filters, make sure you're looking for recent publications by filtering for articles written in the past 10 years. If you're having trouble, ask a librarian or your professor for help.

You found an article that's perfect for you. Make sure you do a few things before you print the article out to read. Read the article's ABSTRACT. Is it what you really need? Do you understand it? Make sure it's going to give you the information you need.

Second, use the article record to find other keyword or search terms. Under SUBJECTS or KEYWORDS, there'll be a list of subjects related to your article. Try searching with a few of those terms.
