Open Educational Resources (OER): Finding OER

Where to Find Open Educational Resources

This page provides some general resources for finding OER. If you're looking for subject-specific OER, check out the subject-specific subpages above.

Open Textbook Repositories

OER Commons
One of the largest repositories for open textbooks and other OER. Middlesex Community College has its own group on OER Commons for sharing resources created by MCC affiliates (see the Sharing OER page for more details).
LibreTexts
Another large and widely-used OER repository. LibreTexts has over 2500 openly-licensed textbooks available and more are regularly added.
OpenStax
In addition to offering peer-reviewed, openly-licensed textbooks, OpenStax also provides ancillary materials designed to complement their textbooks (see the Ancillary Materials page for more details).
Open Textbook Library
This online library is maintained by the University of Minnesota, and all of its open textbooks are reviewed by UMN faculty members.
InTech Open
InTech is an open textbook publisher specializing in STEM and the social sciences. All of their textbooks are available for download from their website.

Finding Other Open Resources

OASIS
The Openly Available Sources Integrated Search (OASIS) tool provides access to hundreds of thousands of open resources, including textbooks, courses, podcasts, videos, and audiobooks.
MERLOT The MERLOT system provides access to curated online learning and support materials and content creation tools, led by an international community of educators, learners and researchers.
DPLA
The Digital Public Library of America is one of the largest online resources for ebooks and other digital library content. Not all of the items in its collection are public domain or openly licensed, but each item has a Rights field that specifies its license and re-use restrictions.
MOM
The Mason OER Metafinder searches across OER-specific repositories and public domain texts. The main search page also links out to the repositories it searches, making it a great first stop to find other OER sites.
Skills Commons Free and open online library containing workforce related OER materials created by over 700 community colleges across the United States.
