Video Transcript:

Hello. I am Mark Matook, Student Success Librarian of Systems and Electronic Resources for the Middlesex Community College Libraries.  The MCC Libraries provide access to powerful video streaming services, such as Kanopy and Films on Demand.

We recommend that you browse within each platform by going to the library homepage and clicking the blue “Video” button in the middle of the page.  You can then browse within Kanopy and Films on Demand.  We also list PBS Video because many of the videos on the platform are available to the public.  Please visit the MCCLibVid about accessing Kanopy for new information about login.

As with articles and ebooks, you will want to link students to videos via a permalink or persistent link.  In Kanopy, you can do so by locating the video that you would like to link to, clicking “Share” below the video player, and copying the provided link.

You will then want to create a hyperlink within a content box in Blackboard.  Simply type the text that you would like to appear.  I will use the title of this film.  Highlight the text.  Right click.  Select link.  Paste the URL that we copied from Kanopy. Select new page.  Done.  You have successfully created a hyperlink for a Kanopy film in Blackboard.  It is recommended that you do not paste the URL directly into a content box in order to avoid Blackboard blocking the link.

Alternatively, you may wish to click Build Content, then Web Link.  You can then name the link with the title of the film, paste the URL that we copied earlier, and add a description that includes information about the film, the purpose for screening, or any notes or assignment information.  Then, click submit.

The link that you have created using either approach includes an authentication piece that will allow students to access the film.  Students simply login, and follow the site’s guidance.  You may also wish to share with your students the MCCLibVid about accessing Kanopy.

If you have any questions about this and other topics, we encourage you to contact an MCC Librarian by visiting our site and using some of the many means of contact.
